Blue Ridge 2nd Graders Explore the World of Butterflies
2nd graders recently raised Painted Lady Butterflies. They were able to examine the life cycle of these butterflies from the larval stage through pupa, and finally the adult stage (when the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis).
Walla Walla School District's Battle of the Books
Blue Ridge principal, Mrs. Doepker and Blue Ridge students participated in the annual Battle of the books. Students read books and come together to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read. The competitions are similar in style to the TV series Family Feud or Whiz Kids styles of competition, but the structure and format of the competitions may vary depending on the needs, resources and personal preferences at various school sites or at the regional/state competition levels.

MSP Testing Going on Now
Our annual testing window is now open. Blue Ridge students in 3rd through 5th grades will join their peers across Washington State to measure their academic progress this year. Students will test in the subjects of Math, Reading, Science, and Writing (although some grades will not test in all these areas of study).
As always, we need your help for your student to test most successfully. Here is how you can assist:
Set an early bedtime.
Limit TV and video game time.
Increase time spent reading with your child.
Ask questions about what they are learning.
Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast.
Encourage your child to get plenty of exercise and fresh air.
We also ask that parents and guardians try their best to not schedule medical and dental appointments during the month of May. The testing dates for each area of study set by the state are firm. Students need to be present on testing days.
