Autumn 2016 Message
Greetings-
The school year is underway, and we are off to a great start! We have so many exciting things going on at Blue Ridge, I just have to share with you some of the amazing happenings.
Our academics are off to a strong start. Students have been assessed to help us find the best way to target their learning needs. Small groups have been formed to further dial in on those targets. It is so wonderful to see students receiving specific instruction based on their specific needs. Hats off to the teachers, specialists, and learning coaches for crafting schedules and groups! Staff is working on a builing-wide goal this year - which is to give feedback to students (and in some cases receive feedback from students) so that students know exactly why they are learning a skill, how it is measured, and what happens if they master that skill, or if they need to continue to work on mastering it. We all work better when we know what we're working toward, and children are no exception. I look forward to seeing the results this strategy yields for our students.
We once again have a PTA! I am so grateful to those parents and guardians who have set aside the time to charter this organization in our school. Turnout has been great, but we can always use more members. We meet once monthly, and we'd love to have you as part of the Blue Ridge PTA team. Our next meeting is October 17th at 6:30 p.m., please join us.
Fall Parent Teacher/ Goal-setting Conferences are happening the 2nd week in October. I strongly encourage all parents and guardians to make time to attend. This is a perfect time to connect with your child's teachers, take a look at their progress, and understand where they are headed academically for this school year. It is so important for us to have this contact time with you to make sure your child's school year is a team effort: student+teacher+parent. We cannot do the work we do without your support and input.
Additionally, we've just completed out first annual Fund Run. Blue Ridge kids earned over $4,800.00 to go towards the future purchase of playground equipment! It was incredible to see the student body reach and exceed their goal of $4,000.00. We know that parents and families had a lot to do with that, and I want to thank you for your generosity, and your encouragement. Together we can do great things!
Finally, please make sure to check our Events Calendar on this website for upcoming happenings here at Blue Ridge. We have a lot going on - and we welcome you to be a part of that.
With warmest regards,
Kim Dopker, Principal
