Summer Message
Summer, 2011
Blue Ridge Families,
I hope you are enjoying the warm weather and relaxed pace of the summer break. I am excited that the Summer Enrichment program at Blue Ridge this summer is extending learning and providing a great time for many of our students. The Summer Enrichment Staff is doing a fantastic job of making learning fun this summer, I hope you are as pleased with the program as I am.
When you visit us at the beginning of the school year, you will notice we have had new carpet installed in the upper level corridors and hallways of our school. Last summer, new carpet was installed in the lower level corridors and hallways. Our janitorial staff have been hard at work cleaning our school to make sure everything is bright and shiny for the start of school. The new carpet is just one of the improvements at Blue Ridge, many classrooms are getting a fresh coat of paint, and we have been enjoying our new playground equipment since spring. Our staff and our computer lab were the grateful recipients of new computers last year, and they have been put to good use. A well maintained, up-to-date facility is so crucial for student morale as well as learning, and I hope you will be pleased with these changes. A special "thank you" to our superintendent, Mick Miller, for the help in sprucing up our building.
The school year will begin early for our in-coming kindergartners this year. They will start on August 1st. This will give the staff extra time to help our smallest students navigate the new world of kindergarten without the distraction of older students and first day "jitters." We look forward to using this time with new kindergartners to the best of our advantage, and think this "jump start" will show in their learning as they progress through the school year.
Please mark your calendars to attend our Open House on August 22nd. We will post the time and exact location on this website shortly. The staff at Blue Ridge feel strongly about providing this opportunity for you and your student(s) to drop off school supplies, and meet their teacher prior to the first day. Our aim is to be off and running with teaching and learning on the first day, without a second to lose. Please plan to attend.
As always, you are key to your child's education, we look forward to your continued involvement in the coming school year. I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer break.
Yours Truly,
Kim Doepker
